Northern Ireland waste compaction specialists, CK International, have recently completed a project to install balers at multiple distribution centres of a large on line retailer throughout the UK.
CK International started trading over 20 years ago and now manufacture, install and service an extensive range of baling and compacting products for the waste recycling industry worldwide.
This latest project involved the design, manufacture and installation of various waste compacting solutions to support tasks carried out by staff at each distribution centre. In total more than 60 machines were installed at sites in England, Scotland and Wales, including dock fed compactors, 500V vertical balers, fully automatic balers and semi-automatic balers.
At the distribution centres large amounts of cardboard and plastic wrapping were accumulating when goods received were extracted from their packaging. Baling this waste presents a cost-effective alternative to waste disposal which has been subject to rising costs in recent years.
To provide the customer with the best solution, CK International worked closely with Avermann, to design and manufacture a bespoke fully automatic channel press baler as part of the project. The new AVOS 1410 model significantly reduces energy consumption and it also has multiple configurations and a generous feed opening for loading larger materials, making it a very user friendly solution. Loading the balers via automatic conveyance optimises throughput and reduces the need for manual intervention.
The fully automatic baler has a 50 tonne compaction force and can process up to 6 tonnes per hour with mill size bales up to 500kg being achieved. It comes with a bale stamper ram as standard to ensure a smooth baling operation, and a heavy duty shearing system with removable serrated blades and interlocked access panels for ease of cleaning and maintenance. It also features remote access to assist with commissioning, service and diagnostics. Another useful feature is the wire break control system that will identify when a wire needs to be replaced, thus eliminating any unnecessary downtime.
CK’s latest innovation in waste compacting was developed to suit the needs of the UK logistics and distribution sectors.
The balers installation in the production areas of the distribution centres is already helping to increase productivity as staff no longer need to transport waste to external waste containers. Waste material collected can also be sold on for re-use, thus creating an additional source of revenue for the company, whilst eliminating the costs of skip hire. This results in further cost savings.
Installation of balers was carried out by CK International’s Service team. CK International operate a nationwide network of field service engineers who are able to cover all aspects of baler service and maintenance. CK International service team will service and repair all the balers installed, providing round the clock coverage at the company’s distribution centres in England, Scotland and Wales 365 days a year.
