CK International Waste Compactors Help Irish Retailer Cut Waste Processing Time by 50%
Supermarkets are processing huge amounts of waste at the moment. An Irish retailer partnered with CK International to cut their waste processing time and labour by 50%.
The customer faced a challenge: separating and baling waste on-site had become extremely time-consuming and labour-intensive. Waste arrived in shop cages via transport lorries, then required manual separation before being put into two mill-sized balers on-site. They needed a solution to reduce processing time and manpower.
CK International’s Solution
Darren O’Hanlon, CK International’s Sales Manager for Ireland, explains: “We immediately saw how we could help save space, eliminate the need for forklifts, and reduce operator workload. The customer had limited indoor space, so we installed a static compactor with a dock canopy outside. This setup saved space and removed the need for storing bales.”
“The open-hand feed hopper eliminates sorting, allowing operators to throw materials directly into the machine, which compacts them into a portable roll-on bin. Since it’s a compactor, there’s no need to tie bales. Even though the equipment is outside, all operations are completed from inside the building, further reducing manual handling.”
Results and Benefits
The customer is delighted with the results. The new process is far more efficient and safer. Although they initially worried about losing revenue from baled commodities, the space and labour savings significantly outweighed the negatives.
