Celebrating #NIAW22 with CK International Apprentices

To mark Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week (#NIAW22), we asked our Level 2 Engineering apprentices, Caolan and Hubert, about their career choices and their experiences working at CK International.

Choosing an Engineering Apprenticeship

Caolan: I knew early on that university and its high fees were not for me. My father, who has engineering experience, encouraged me to explore this path. I’ve always loved working with machinery and wiring. Securing an apprenticeship that included a Level 2 Diploma in Engineering through the Enniskillen technical college gave me the chance to study part-time while gaining essential hands-on experience.

Hubert: Technology fascinated me from a young age. I was drawn to the design and build process of heavy machinery. That passion led me to apply for the Level 2 Diploma in Engineering at Enniskillen technical college.

Favourite Aspects of Engineering

Caolan: Engineering offers endless opportunities. Every day is different, and I constantly learn new skills. I’m proud to contribute to the creation of each machine.

Hubert: I love the variety. With CK International’s wide range of machines, no two days are the same. I gain fresh skills every day.

Why CK International?

Caolan: I applied after seeing an apprenticeship ad on Mid Ulster Mega. CK International’s strong reputation and opportunities for career development made it the perfect fit.

Hubert: During my interview, the panel’s positive and welcoming approach impressed me. I felt appreciated from the start and was excited to begin my on-the-job training.

Company Culture

Caolan: CK International values every employee. They listen, solve problems quickly, and create a sense of unity so everyone can work to their full potential.

Hubert: The team helps me grow. They answer my questions and support my development, giving me the confidence to build my skills and knowledge.

Enjoying the Role

Caolan: I genuinely enjoy my job and feel like an integral part of the team. I’m excited about my future here.

Hubert: I work with a fantastic team that supports my career growth. Daily hands-on experience, regular training, and a strong focus on staff wellbeing make CK International a great place to work.
